EDIT 2: Fixed his hair line and did a little more tweaking since it looked funky on my new monitor. :/
EDIT: I made his head smaller, his left hand larger, tweaked the colors a bit, and tightened up the rendering of his coat. Does it look any better? I took a break from a commission this afternoon, and decided to draw Auron, from Final Fantasy X, because he's clearly the most awesome character. And here I am, several hours later. I think I'm mostly happy with this. We'll let it sit for a couple days and then see what I think. In the mean time, constructive criticism is appreciated. Also, Auron is hot. Having that said, since you want constructive crit, I shall attempt: Auron's hand seems a bit too blurry near the pinkie. The glasses could have been a little more transparent, maybe seeing his eyes slightly while the 'texture' on the shoulder guard and the neck guard are reasonably detailed, it seems a bit rush on his red jacket area. This is hard to describe without a screenshot, but I noticed there's an area of lighter red which extends past where the belt ends (To the right of his body), and it can be confused for Auron's jacket. That's all I can think of. -- The irrationality of a thing is no argument against its existence, rather a condition of it. -Friedrich Nietzsche Ah, good point about his pinky. I was experimenting with blurring non-focal areas of the image, but I will go back and clear that up a little.
To be honest, I have a lot of trouble with large areas of thick cloth! Yes, I know where you mean. That's supposed to be his left sleeve, sort of trailing off into the background. It's also supposed to be me trying to use atmospheric perspective. Thanks so much for the con/crit! I really enjoy how you chisled out the features in your shading and highlighting, though it would be cool to see more contrast in the image. Like on this clothing for instance. Its more of a person to person preference, but when i look at the gold trim and how it gives off ambient light, it makes me wonder if the chest plate could have more lusture. The same could be said for his robes.
I do understand that everything has a different texture so refraction realsitcally wouldn't be as I explained it. Certain textures have their own Luminosity refraction. You captured it Very well and i really enjoyed this piece. Thanks for making it!
